URPoint Details

Mayflower Hall is where in 1620 the Pilgrim Fathers met before setting off to America. Christopher Martin the ship’s purser, together with his wife Marie and her brother-in-law Solomon Prower were among the band who left England to seek freedom across the Atlantic. Not one of the group from Billericay survived the epidemic which accounted for so many of the Mayflower’s passengers.

The 16th century Hall, Chequers Inn and the 1840 St Andrew's Hospital are interesting buildings.

Norsey Wood, Outwood Common Road is open all year except Sunday.
Ancient woodland steeped in history. It was here that 500 men led by Wat Tyler were massacred by King Richard's soldiers during the Peasant's Revolt against taxes in 1381.
