One of the most beautiful Welsh villages, the name means ‘chapel in the wood's and nestles among the hills of the Gwydyr Forest in a valley where three rivers meet.
Betws-y-Coed grew up in the last century as one of the most beautiful areas of Snowdonia. The rivers — the Conwy, Llug-wy and Lledr - tumble down to the town over waterfalls.
The most spectacular are the Swallow Falls on the Llugwy, 2 miles west, and the Conwy Falls, 2 miles south. An elegant iron bridge built in 1815 by Thomas Telford spans the Conwy, and a picturesque 15th-century stone bridge crosses the Llugwy.
