The fishing and holiday resort at the mouth of the River Naver on Torrisdale Bay was founded by Elizabeth, Marchioness of Stafford for crofters evicted during the Highland Clearances to make room for sheep and deer.
Beyond the bay to the northwest are the islands of Eilean Co’omb and the precipitous Roan Island.
