Lying on the River Tweed on the borders of Scotland and England, there has been nowhere where, as many battles have taken place than here.
The town changed hands 13 times between the 12th and finally becoming English in 1482.
Between 1147 and 1182 Berwick was held by both the Scots and English.
The original wall following the river was built between 1760 and 1770 and a walk along the top gives good views of the harbour and town.
The old bridge that connects Tweedmouth to Berwick has 15 arches and was built in 1624.
The Church of the Holy Trinity is a 17th century church with no tower was built by John Young.
