Among the earliest purpose-built barracks, these have changed very little since 1717. They house an exhibition 'By Beat of Drum', which recreates scenes such as a barrack room from the life of the British infantryman, the Museum of the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and the Borough Museum with fine art, local history exhibition, and other collections.
