URPoint Details
Behind the red-brick Victorian almshouses facing on to the green is a square stone well that belonged to a long-forgotten lord of the manor called Bercul; which is how the village got its name. Beside the well is a lovely stone-faced 17th century house, once the rectory.
Berkswell Stocks have five leg holes. Legend has it that there was once an old character in the village with only one leg who was constantly in trouble with a couple of his pals, so the stocks were designed for them.
