Garden: mostly level firm gravel paths give access to large part of garden good views across parkland landscape to distant Welsh hills. Shop in courtyard, 4 steps up. No wheelchair access to restaurant (5 steps) but arrangements will be made in good weather if requested a table can be set up in the courtyard. Toilets in courtyard Staircase balustrades are interesting to touch. House can be congested at busy times.

Built in 1778-81 by Henry Holland for Thomas Harley, the third son of the 3rd Earl of Oxford and the building far exceeded Holland's original estimate. Probable cause was that in April 1781 Harley married his daughter Anne to George, (eldest son of Admiral Rodney, one of the most distinguished naval commanders of the day). Since Anne and her new husband were likely to inherit Berrington, Harley celebrated the union with a more lavish - and more expensive - decorative
