Perfectly preserved 800 year old castle with keep, dungeon, state-rooms, Great Hall, kitchen, tapestries, furniture and silver.
Berkeley Castle was the site of one of the darker deeds of British history, when King Edward II was killed in a particularly gruesome manner, using a red hot poker. The castle is surrounded by lovely terraced Elizabethan Gardens, including Elizabeth I’s bowling green.
The Berkeley family have lived in the castle since the 12th century.
