Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, (EH), 14m NW of Newcastle on A696.
Open April to October, daily 10am-6pm. November to March, Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4pm. Closed 24/26 December & 1 January. Admission charge; parking; dogs in certain areas only; suitable for picnics; exhibition has video on castle, of Northumberland with lighted push button to operate (up steep stairs, not accessible for wheelchair users).
Disabled parking beside entrance, with reserved parking for disabled drivers; loose gravel surface in car park; impacted gravel paths. Access to buildings via ramp at rear hall entrance to ground floor; castle and manor house reached via 700m path through gardens; no access within castle or manor house, except via steps; spiral stair to upper levels of castle. Gardens have full access on level, impacted gravel paths and short grass; signposted wheelchair route; many seats available. Toilets with shallow ramp. Shop has level access. Easy access to tearoom; food and drink can be brought out to picnic area (accessible for wheelchair users). The custodians are happy to give information on the gardens and buildings to visitors with disabilities.
