RAF Conignsby is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF), which is often seen flying over central London on major occasions such as the recent wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton and the various World War Two anniversaries.. The BBMF also attends many of the regular classic aircraft and warbits events throughotu theUK summer.
Formed in 1957, the BBMF pays tribute to the RAF pilots, aircrew and ground crews that fought in World War Two and in other conflicts. Usually the Flight's only Avro Lancaster bomber and one each of its selection of Supermarine Spitfires, and Hawker Hurricane fighters tour the country for special events and air shows.
The entire operation is maintained by the serving RAF teams at Coningsby and the free-to-enter museum is provided by the County of Lincolnshire.
A fascinating guided tour around the Flight's hangar attracts a small fee, and is of limited availability, in which a Lancaster, Hurricane, Dakota and four Spitfires can be seen.
