Langenduna (long hill), is recorded in the Domesday Book as being held by Suene of Essex, while Leindune (Laindon took its name from a stream called the Lyge) rising near the church of St Nicholas in Laindon.Between the two stood Leam (Westle and Estle) held by the canons of St Pauls. Records are confusing as in 1432 Estle was combined with Laindon and Westle with Langdon.
