Barnack Hills & Holes Natural Nature Reserve is a 23.3 hectare (54 acres) of limestone grassland is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Four centuries of quarry workings from Roman times have made this area a haven for over 200 species of herbaceous plants, grasses, trees and shrubs. Nearly 30 species of butterflies have been recorded here and bird and insect life is abundant. The terrain is uneven but dry and may be unsuitable for some visitors.
