URPoint Details

The approach to the village has some pretty overhanging cottages and at the top of the hill is the 300 year old The Fox & Hound with its very famous inn sign stretching across the width of the road destroyed by fire but has been rebuilt in another part of the village.

Town House is an original early Tudor building with great oak beams, has a jutting out porch at each end with an exterior staircase to the upper floor which is one long room believed to have been used ‘for the keeping of maides’ marriages’.

At Shaftenhoe End is the Big House, the doorways have hood on carved brackets. The upper storey projects on the south porch is dated 1624, and there is a large outer chimney and diagonal chimney stacks.
