Near the borders with Yorkshire, stands Barlborough Hall, built in 1583 by George Francis Rhodes.
It is a compact Elizabethan mansion with mullion transom cross windows. The Hall, Great Chamber and the Long Gallery are the rooms of most interest. Barlborough Hall was probably designed by the Smythsons and the house is approached from the village by a beautiful avenue of trees, planted in the reign of William and Mary.
The property now houses Barlborough Hall School, which is the junior section of Mount St Mary's College at the nearby village of Spinkhill.
