Church of St James is a 13th century church, mentioned in the Domesday Book. Rebuilt by the Normans in 1170, however, it has been completely rebuilt twice, first in the 18th century and again in 1899.

Beneath the high altar are the toms of two Lord Mayors of London. Above the Chancel arch hangs a painting of Christ's Last Supper. The church also houses a Florentine Primitive of the Crucifixition hanging on the north side of the choir.
