Situated on Bannock Burn and near St Ninian’s is where the famous battle took place between Bruce who defeated the English under Edward II in 1314.
The Borestone nearby is by tradition where Bruce displayed the Scottish Royal Standard.
As a result of the battle, Stirling surrendered and Edward II fled to Dunbar and Scotland achieved her independence.
Also near here is where the battle of Sauchieburn took place in 1488, when James II was defeated and afterwards fatally stabbed.
Prince Charles Edward made Bannockburn House his headquarters in January 1746.
