A fishing port and seaside resort at the mouth of the River Stinchar on Ballantrae Bay.
There are some fine places of interest including Sandy Bean's Cave and to the north Bennane Head and Knockdolian Hill.
To the south on the road to Stranraer is the beautiful Glen App with a delightful little church.
To the north on the Girvan road is Kennedy's Pass one of the finest coastal roads in southern Scotland.
