A scattered village at the sea entrance to Loch Leven notorious for a notorious murder trial known as the ‘Appin murder'.
A granite memorial near the bridge over the Loch, marks the spot where James Stewart of the Glen was wrongly hanged for shooting Colin Roy Campbell of Glenure – 11 of the jury were Campbells.
The identity of murderer was never discovered.
To the southwest on the Oban road through Appin country past the shores of Outer Loch Linnhe amid delightful scenery below the Ben Vair with its peaks of Sgurr Dhearg rising to 3,362ft and Sgurr Dhonuill at 3,284 are great viewpoints. Ballachulish - (bhaile aig a Chaolas)
