The principal town of the Peak District, on the River Wye with a fine old bridge and has had a thriving outdoor market since 1330 and is home to the famous Bakewell Pudding.
Bakewell is an ideal base from which explore, situated close to Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and many of the spectacular Dales of the Peak District.
There is an interesting cruciform 12th 14th century church and in the churchyard is a Saxon Cross.
