URPoint Details
The River Nith flows through the picturesque gorge below the bridge and dates from 1780 which Thomas Carlyle’s father helped to build.
Near the river is Ellisland farm where Robert Burns composed ‘Tam o’ Shanter’ among other works.
To the west is the ruined 16th century Lag tower and to the southeast is Isle Tower dating from 1587.
