Auchinleck House is the estate into which James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck was born on the 29 October 1740. Boswell died 19 May 1795 and was buried in the little churchyard.
He was a writer of books, poems and pamphlets, and was associated with Samuel Johnson.
The house is partly the work of the Adam's brothers and date from around 1780.
