Monument, Shop and Information Centre open April to end October, Monday to Thursday & Good Friday 2-5pm. Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holiday Monday 2-5.30pm. Last admission to monument 2hr before closing.
Charge to monument: dogs admitted on leads and kept under control shop.
Visitor centre, shop and tea kiosk are all accessible.
The Ashridge Estate covers some six square miles in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, running along the main ridge of the Chiltern Hills from Berkhamsted to Ivinghoe Beacon.
It comprises over 4,000 acres of woodland, commons and downland. At the northerly end of the Estate the Ivinghoe Hills are an outstanding area of chalk downland which supports a rich variety of plants and insects. The Ivinghoe Beacon itself offers splendid views from some 700ft above sea level. This area may be reached from a car park at Steps Hill. The rest of Ashridge is an almost level plateau with many fine walks through woods and open commons.
Wildlife is well represented a wide variety of birds is always in evidence, including the goldcrest and the lesser spotted woodpecker. Some 400 fallow deer roam freely muntjac deer, badgers and foxes also abound and almost unique
