URPoint Details
A picturesque village mentioned in the Domesday Book.
From 1375-1605 the manor of Ashby was the principal residence of the Catesby family and Guy Fawkes reputedly met Robert Catesby to hatch the Gunpowder Plot in a room over the Manor Gatehouse. Also of interest is the village church.
There has been a church on this site since Norman times or earlier. The oldest parts of the present building date from the early 14th century, in the Decorated style, with the nave and its two aisles in the Perpendicular style. Other features of particular interest include the font, wall paintings and ancient glass, ancient pews, rood screen, 3-decker pulpit and memorial brasses.
