The Norman suffix comes from the lords of the manor La Souche in 1160. They built a hall which in the 15th century was extended to become a castle.
The church preserves interesting monuments and also a finger pillory.
In the Hastings chapel is buried the famous Countess of Huntingdon, the 18th century religious revival leader who died in 1791.
One of the maiden’s garlands hang in the church, once seen at the funerals of young unmarried women.
