The streets of Ashburton have many fine buildings including Elizabethan, Georgian and Victorian.
In North Street a shop with a Norman granite arch was once the Mermaid Inn.
Close to the Old Totnes Road stands an ancient, granite cross beside a tiny spring. This is St Gudula’s Well, the water was supposed to benefit the eyes.
At Dartmeet a famous beauty spot on Dartmoor and where the rivers West Dart and East Dart meet near the road from Ashburton to Two Bridges. A ‘clapper ‘ bridge, a rough stone bridge crosses the bubbling East Dart a little way upstream from the modern bridge.
