URPoint Details
Limited access to garden and grounds with steep slopes; several level paths with superb views; guide dogs admitted.
Set in 30 acres of grounds the house is surrounded by gardens containing Victorian formality of the 20th century natural style, planting trees and plants which would be of interest during the winter months when the Rothschild family used the house as a hunting lodge. Terraced lawns with panoramic views to the Chilterns are planted with specimen and ornamental trees such as weeping copper beech and juniper. Clipped yew hedges and a retaining wall hide a formal garden including a circular lawn with fountain of Venus in her chariot and a long, narrow Dutch garden with circular beds of annuals. There is an impressive topiary throughout including a giant sundial of box and golden yew. At the far side of the house is a beech hedge avenue leading to a large water-lily lake.
