Here an historic atmosphere awaits you..... a small church with a most tragic story.
In 1845 crofters were evicted from their farms by over-zealous landlords who had decided to farm sheep instead of crops (this is where the saying ‘money on the sheep’s back’ orignated). The crofters fled to shelter in the nearest churchyard for safety, and before they were killed by the laird’s men some of them managed to scratch their names and date on the east window (now preserved) — 24 May 1845!
It is quite an unbelievable and eerie place, but well worth trying to find.
