A pretty hamlet sitting beside Loch Long at the end of the road from Dunoon in the land of Cowal with Beinn Mhor rising to 2,433ft in the background.
Ard (high headland or promontory) an (of the) teine (fire). At one time the Dukes of Argyll used a ferry from Ardentinny to Coulport (back ferry) on the opposite shore.
