A weaver’s cottage and the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie born here in 1835. The adjoining memorial hall was provided by his widow in 1928.
The displays tell the extraordinary rags to riches story of the weaver’s son who emigrated to America and forged a fortune from furnaces of the American steel industry.
He went on to endow a range of trusts which still operate and he provided for public libraries around the world and gave opportunities to all who wished to educate or advance themselves.
