Ancrum Bridge spans the Teviot and a little to the northwest lies the village on the Ale Water with a part 13th century cross on the village green.
Ancrum House lies in a fine wooded setting and there are many old caves used in Border warfare.
Away to the north is where the battlefield of Ancrum Moor took place in 1545 also called Lilliard’s Edge in honour of a heroine of the battle one of the last major Border conflicts.
Northeast of the village on Peniel Heugh is the Waterloo Monument erected in 1815.
