URPoint Details
West of Peterborough and on the river Nene, Alwalton flanks the line of Ermine Street and is, quite an ancient village - as the Norman church and Elizabethan manor house testify.
Of more modern interest is the fact that it was the birthplace of Henry Royce, the originator of Rolls-Royce cars, and he is buried in the church.
Nearby is the 240-acre site of the East of England Regional Showground, a site used each July for the Summer Show and at other times for horse and pony shows, industrial and agricultural exhibitions and for grass track and speedway racing.
