A weaving town at the foot of the Ochil hills with Ben Ceuch rising to 2,363ft and with the River Devon flowing to the south.
At the head of Alva Glen is the Craighall waterfall and in the Silver Glen a silver mine was worked from 1712.
Two Communion cups in the church are made of local silver.
