URPoint Details
Dominated by the largest military camp in Britain, Aldershot is largely a Victorian town boasting excellent modern facilities for shopping and recreation. No other area of this size in Hampshire has so many museums and a visit
to the Aldershot Military Museum and Visitors' Centre in Queens Avenue is a must. There you can obtain details of the Military Town Trail and see the full story of Rushmoor's British Army and military aviation connections. The churches are worth visiting for their interesting history, architecture, monuments, memorials and artefacts.
The Heroes' Shrine is Aldershot's granite memorial to those who died in World War I. Also in the park is a walled and sunken garden, sheltered by a huge deodar tree, which is Aldershot's World War II memorial and the country's tribute to those who died in the Battle of Britain and in civilian bombing.
