The beach is pebble and you can walk to Thorpeness and the windmill, past North Warren Reserve.
This is one of the oldest seaside resorts with lots guest houses and interesting shops.
The White Lion Hotel and a terrace of typical 19th century seafront houses ending with the Sundial House dating from the 1920s.
The shoulder of the harbour has been reclaimed and the views are wonderful.
Aldeburgh was a prosperous port and flourishing shipbuilding industry in the 16th century. The shipyards built the famous Greyhound and Pelican for Drake, and the men of Aldeburgh sailed them. The River Alde is now a haven for yachtsmen.
Martello Tower, on the seafront is a tall square building with a spiral staircase on the outside and is one of many built along the East Anglian coast in 1810 to 1812 as a defence against Napoleon.
Alde House, was the home of the Elizabeth Anderson who entered the medical profession when it was still a closed profession to women. She opened a hospital in London which still bears her name and she was also the first woman mayor in England and of Aldeburgh.
