URPoint Details
Unfortunately parts of the buildings are not easy to access; two wheelchairs in the Unicorn Theatre and the Lower Hall is accessible via a ramp.
The Benedictine Abbey was founded in the 7th century and was destroyed in the Dissolution in 1538. All that remains is the 15th century guest house and a few buildings. The Checkers is an original 13th century house and may have been part of the Abbey. The Gatehouse, built around 1460 as the main entrance, has a room above the archway which was used as a prison for almost 250 years.
