On an ancient site of worship dating from 580AD and becoming a cathedral in 1140, the present building dates from 1350 to 1520.
A twin towered granite building with stone pillars inside, an impressive heraldic ceiling of panelled oak dating from 1520 depicting notable sovereigns of Europe, and the nobles and ecclesiastical households of Scotland. There are impressive stained glass windows on three sides. There is also a collection of medieval charters in the Charter Room.
Outside is the tomb of Bishop Gavin Dunbar.
