A picturesque village situated on the Whiteadder Water with the Lammermuir hills nearby.
In the interesting parish church, is the preserved tomb of a prioress, portraying her pet dog and both the east and north walls are part of an ancient nunnery chapel.
The Holy Well of St Bathans is in the grounds of the manor house.
To the south, on the slopes of Cockburn Law which rises to 1,065ft is the ancient Pictish tower, or broch known as Edinshall one of the very few examples known outside the Northern Highlands.
