There has been a church on this site for over 1200 years, and the present building has been here for the last 900. It is not a Cathedral, but it is one of the largest Parish Churches in the country, supported by the congregation and the many visitors. The Quire vaulting dates from the 14th century and there are seven huge stained glass windows from that period. The pipes at the front of the organ date from around 1620 and are still in regular use.
